Other Side of Eden: Rev. Alphonso Washington describes a dangerous relationship
Alphonzo Washington was interviewed in front of the gate to "The Cove" property just west of Hume, Virginia. Alphonzo worked as a "houseboy" for the Ambler family and later had a similar job at "The Cove".
Alphonzo tells a story about how dangerous it was for a black man to be seen in public with a white woman. In this case he tells the story of his relationship with Elizabeth Ambler, the college age daughter of a prominant Fauquier County family.
