Dr. Deborah Elizabeth “Sunny” Cohen independently produced Going, Going, Going, which won an award as Best Classic Roots Culture Film in the 2010 Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival along with honors when it was first released in 1990 from the National Educational Film and Video Festival and the Northwest Film and Video Festival. Since making the film, she has continued her work as an award winning transmedia artist of moving image and performance arts and as an educator/scholar with a PhD in Computing Technology in Education, an MA in Drama, and a BA in English. She has also continued with qualitative research studying diverse communities and phenomenon. She was a fulltime university professor for 7 years, five of which were in a global educational context, in which she taught international students to understand and to develop expressive works based on language, performance, and communication, in digital and legacy forms. Prior to receiving her PhD in 2005 and returning to the classroom, she was at the helm of an educational technology-based communications company for over 15 years developing works in a variety of digital and live mediums for Fortune 500 companies, museums, TV stations, colleges, and nonprofit organizations. Cohen has been recognized for her research through publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences. From May to December 2017, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access. In recent years she has become a communications consultant and has transitioned into work as a Reiki Master and Educator and Distance Healer. Her newly published book Inner Growth Thru Reiki is widely available in digital and paperback versions.
