David Millstone |
David Millstone lives in Lebanon, NH. He started contra dancing—with Dudley Laufman—in the early 1970s and has been calling dances for more than 45 years. His repertoire includes American contras and squares, English country dances, and family-friendly community dances; he has appeared at dance camps and weekends across North America as well as in nine European countries. His other documentary projects include Paid to Eat Ice Cream, which focuses on Bob McQuillen, the New Hampshire dance musician and tunesmith, and Sweet Talk, about Connecticut contra and square dance caller Ralph Sweet. Millstone served for six years as president of the Country Dance and Song Society, he coordinates the Square Dance History Project, and he created A Hand for the Band, a website that celebrates more than 300 early bands who played for contra and square dances. During Covid times, he presented numerous online presentations on country dance history, including a detailed look at square dancing.
