Born in 1955, Independent Filmmaker John Whitehead lives in Saint Paul, MN. He makes films for PBS and videos for non-profit organizations. He is also an avid amateur musician with a long time interest in American roots music. His latest project, Don't Get Trouble in Your Mind: The Carolina Chocolate Drops' Story, is a documentary portrait of the Grammy-winning string band; it recently won awards at both The Oxford, MS Film Festival and The Long Leaf Film Festival in Winston-Salem, NC. His many other titles include, Ohiyesa: The Soul of an Indian; First Speakers: Restoring the Ojibwe Language; and Wannabe: Life and Death in a Small Town Gang. https://www.
