About the Film

Academy award winning filmmaker Paul Wagner and folklorist Steve Zeitlin produced this 1983 oral history of the old-time traveling medicine show performers, with a recreated medicine show staged in a small North Carolina town. Folkstreams' founder Tom Davenport used Free Show Tonite as research for his fictional film Willa: An American Snow White where the protagonist escapes from her stepmother and lands in a traveling medicine show.
